A Vegas inspired birthday

I have only been to Vegas once.  I was 16 and it was my cousins wedding.  We were only there for a short time and most of that involved hair and makeup appointments and, of course, the wedding.  So I mostly saw the inside of my hotel, my Aunt and Uncle's house, and the wedding venue.  I have yet to experience "Vegas."  But I will!  My latest cake is Vegas inspired.

After a great vacation, I was asked to make the famous "Welcome to Vegas" sign but to change the wording to celebrate this special birthday.  I loved the way it turned out.  Happy Birthday Paige!  I hope you had a great birthday!

Baby boy smash cake session

Who doesn't like to see a baby get all messy and diving into a birthday cake.  I don't know about you, but I sometimes get so excited about cake that I wish I could just dive into it with my fingers and eat as much of it as I want and for that to be acceptable.  But that is not ok for me to do.  So since its cute on babies I will have to settle with watching them enjoy their first sweet indulgence.  I have recently partnered with a local Orlando photographer by providing her small smash cakes for her birthday sessions.  I am so excited to see some of my work being professionally photographed and also thoroughly enjoyed by the cutest subjects.  Here is the latest (he looks a like he isn't so sure he should be eating that cake). . .!/photo.php?fbid=10150249573177466&set=a.437797807465.236064.167178322465&type=1&theater

I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures from the shoot!

I've been busy. . .

The summer started off slow and lazy.  I can't say I didn't enjoy it.  But I absolutely LOVE decorating these edible goodies, so I am happy to be keeping busy.

I was asked to make a baby shower cake to coordinate with the "carters" partyware and decorations they had purchased.  It was such a pretty pattern with pinks and butterflies.  Super cute.  As soon as I saw it I knew I could turn it into a cake.  Here's what I came up with. . .

I also made this beautie.  This is actually a copy or a design from  I periodically check their blog and saw this picture and knew I needed an excuse to make it.  I just love the final result.  Its sweet and oh so pretty.  And it was pretty simple to make but looks much more complicated.  It also was the first time that I made a coconut cake with coconut buttercream.  I thought it was pretty yummy and I don't like coconut that much.

And of course Cars!  These cookies went with the #2 shaped Cars cake.  They were a great addition to the party (if you don't mind black teeth :) ).

    A new Cars cake

All the little ones are having Cars birthday parties since the new movie just came out.  Seriously, of the three birthday parties we are invited to this month 2 of them are cars themed.  Thats ok because the movies are cute and so are the characters.  And I always enjoy making new cakes!

My friend asked me to make her sons 2nd birthday cake and already knew what she wanted.  She sent me this picture and wanted to me recreate it.  After discussing the party more we decided to make it match the Cars theme more than race cars.  I love the way it turned out!!!

And I can't wait for the party.  I get to eat this cake!!

    Cars 2

Every time I make a cake it becomes my new favorite.  This time is no exception.  I doubted my skills to be able to pull off an actual character and make it look like it is supposed to look.  I think I actually did a pretty good job.  All the Cars cakes I have seen in the past are very similar, checkered flags, race tracks, etc.  I wanted my Cars 2 cake to be different than the typical design.  Since Lightning McQueen travels the world in the new movieI wanted to make a globe.  So here's what I came up with. . . and I know I said it before, but it is my new favorite cake.  Now I just need to see the movie!

I made the Lightning and Tow Mater out of Rice Krispies.  I just loved them!!!

I also made cookies for this party.  How cute did they turn out?!

Cake ball truffle tower and baby smash cake

My friends LOVE cake balls!  It works out pretty well because I usually have lots of left over cake scraps in the freezer that I should not have lying around the kitchen (me+ cake can = danger and expanding waistline)  And I couldn't possibly throw away any of that delicious cake, so I am more than happy to get rid of my left overs and feed them to my friends.  So on my friends very special 30th birthday she requested cake balls.  I didn't want to just hand her a plate of cake balls since I do that for usual occasions.  So I thought I would try something differen,t and make what i am calling a truffle tower.  The idea was a success!  Very pretty and such a non-messy and yummy party food.

I have some very talented friends!  And one of them happens to be a photographer( ).  We decided to join forces and start working together.  So I will be making smash cakes for her birthday sessions.  I am very excited about making these sweet little cakes and to see what beautiful art she can make with them.  And it will also be nice to have some of my work professionally photographed :)  This one was inspired by the tutu a little girl was going to be wearing during her session.
